MIKE RAMCZYK
Believe it or not, there is roughly only one month left of the Kenosha Kingfish season.
The city of Kenosha’s most popular team is once again struggling to win games in the second half after an up and down first half.
Despite a 4-1 victory over the Rockford Rivets Monday night in a rain-shortened affair, the Kingfish are dwelling in the basem*nt of the Northwoods League Great Lakes East division with a 4-10 record in the second half. They are tied with the Kokomo Jackrabbits and 5½ games out of first place.
With 22 games remaining on the 2024 schedule, Kenosha is 20-30 overall and sits 15 games behind first place Rockford (35-15).
Though the Kingfish won’t be winning it all this year, there’s been plenty of excitement and good times down at Simmons Field.

With endless promotions, a new turf and several chances to get into the action if you haven’t yet, Goralski said it’s been quite the season for the community.
The Kenosha News caught up with him to find out his five takeaways from the first half of the season, which recently concluded:
1. What was the most fun promotion of the first half?
RG: The most fun promotion was the Kenosha Kickers (fictional traveling singing group from the movie “Home Alone” game. Very successful night and an amazing crowd. People were lined up for the bobblehead.
2. What was the top game?
RG: Funny enough the game that night (Kickers) was my favorite as well. We hit four home runs, we won and had a great time.
3. Top moment on the field?
RG: Watching our Japanese pitcher, Tsubasa Tomii. He loves Kenosha, and it’s awesome to watch him get embraced by the rest of the guys.
4. Top moments off the field?
RG: The top moments off the field have been the growth of our front office. Everyone is really doing a great job in their role, and I feel like we keep getting better. Hopefully we can do a ton of new events at Simmons Field, like concerts and other sports.
5. What should people know about the Kingfish that they don’t already know?
RG: I guess that our last game is already mid-August. Don’t miss the summer. It goes by super fast.
Another big night of the first half, and every season, is the game honoring the Kenosha Twins.
The Kenosha Twins were a Class-A Minor League baseball team that played in Kenosha from 1984 to 1992 as an affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. The team played its home games at Simmons Field and won two Midwest League championships, in 1985 and 1987. They also finished first in the Northern Division during the first half of the 1988 season.
Bob Lee, a Kenosha legend, the founder of Lee Mechanical services and a former left-handed pitcher from the city who made it all the way to the Milwaukee Braves minor league system, saw an opportunity to bring the Twins to Simmons Field when they were shopping for places back in 1983.
Lee was integral in bringing the Twins to Kenosha, and he was back to Simmons Field earlier this season.
Twins night was a huge success, according to Goralski.
Here are Goralski’s personal top five moments of the first half of the Kingfish season:
1. Kenosha Twins night
RG: Bringing back Bob Lee and the gang was amazing. They were in shock with the new facility. Not to mention they were the best jerseys we ever had.
2. The brand new turf
RG: It rained almost every day. It feels like the turf has saved us every single game. Being able to get every game in is really important for our business.
3. Little League all-star game
RG: Having all the little guys out here playing on our diamond was so fun. A lot of their parents played on this field. Bringing this event back to Simmons Field was a big deal for the community.
4. The coaching staff
RG: Through the highs and lows of the season they have been amazing. They never waver on their positivity, and it matters to the organization how you carry yourself every day.
5. Bringing my own family to the ballpark
RG: My dog Bubba has been to Bark in the Park. My girlfriend Catie just moved in with me this summer and has not missed a game. My dad works for us (cooks our Philly cheese steaks), and my mom has waited tables. My nephew has been an usher. My sister’s dance team has performed here. My niece has her birthday party here later this month. It is definitely a family affair.
